A PREVIOUS IMPROVEMENT
Lab Storage Bin Improvement - Chase Boone
December 2021
Before: This is what the lab storage bins looked like in many of the bins in all of the labs. There was no clear way to tell how to put things back or which items should go back in which bin (for multi-bin lab kits). This creates ambiguity in the process, which increases process time and lowers efficiency for the setup TAs. It also allows for improper (low quality) storage or mishandling of items when being put in the bins.
After: Chase Boone reevaluated the bins in yellow (PH1011) and blue (PH1123), reorganized the bin contents for more efficiency and clarity, and determined whether to use foam or a "shadowboard" for each bin. Now the bin interiors clearly present the bin users with a clear standard for how to put the items back and there is automatic feedback if something is missing (since there will be an unfilled space in the design). White (PH1133/PH2223), red (PH1113), and green (PH2233) lab storage areas still maintain the old system.
